WelcomeBack

At Leatherneck Simulations we strongly believe in raising the bar, and to bring to life what we are genuinely passionate about.
Thus, it is our absolute pleasure to announce the development of the F-14A & B for the Digital Combat Simulator series.
Developed in association with Eagle Dynamics and The Fighter Collection.

The F-14 is a fourth-generation, twin seat, variable geometry wing intereceptor aircraft, developed for the U.S. Navy’s VFX program.
After introduction into fleet service in 1974, the aircraft become the Navy’s premiere air-superiority and fleet defense fighter.
In time, it would grow to be a legend unlike any other.

For the Development Team, the F-14 will represent the culmination of years of experience and dedication.
Our passion is only rivaled by our ambition, and we are pushing ourselves to be better than ever before.
So strap in and enjoy the ride, and get ready to experience the definitive F-14 experience.

Sincerely,
Leatherneck Simulations

F14FirstFooter

Unarguably the most recognizable aircraft to represent Naval Aviation, the F-14 Tomcat is ingrained into our minds as the ultimate carrier borne interceptor and air superiority fighter aircraft. Packed to the brim with unique and challenging features, developing the F-14 for the DCS platform represents a personal dream for many of our staff.  We at Leatherneck are here to deliver big.

Our DCS: F-14 package will contain both the -A and -B versions of the F-14, each version retaining their unique characteristics and quirks. In this way, we hope to be able to capture the widest range of F-14 Operational history, including ground-attack capability.

At Leatherneck Simulations we firmly believe in raising the bar and the F-14 represents an opportune moment to apply and improve upon everything we’ve learned and achieved thus far. Together with the aircraft itself, we will release the first iteration of our brand new JESTER AI system, which will feature a fully-voiced RIO to handle backseat duties while you fly & fight. Other unique features include a unique failures & maintenance system, a brand new theatre, pilot customization, and multicrew multiplayer capability.

Thank you for your support and trust. Please stay tuned for new updates as we continue building the project of our (and hopefully your!) dreams.

The F-14 will built upon our proprietary component based flight modeling system. The aircraft will be split into hundreds of individual components, each with their own aerodynamic properties. This will allow us to simulate the forces acting upon the aircraft at any given flight regime or aircraft configuration. The pure dynamic nature of the flight modeling simulation means that we can easily introduce advanced features such as variable geometry wings or glove vanes and have them yield realistic results.

To achieve the most authentic flight modeling experience possible, we will be drawing upon the expertise of Subject Matter Experts (Pilots & RIOs), and augmenting this knowledge with Documentation and CFD Simulation.

We will spare no expense in ensuring that the Flight Model that drives our F-14 simulation is as accurate and true-to-life as possible.

AIM-54 & AWG-9

Integral to the Avionics and Weaponry simulation of the F-14; great care and attention is being put into ensuring that both the AIM-54 Phoenix missile and AWG-9/TID Radar System is recreated accurately. CFD Simulation will be utilized to enhance, confirm and expand existing AIM-54 Performance data, in order to ensure accurate flight performance of this much-feared missile. All AWG-9 modes will be recreated to their fullest extent possible.

Carrier Operations

Carrier Operations are considered integral to the gameplay and real life operational difficulties of flying the F-14. We are working in close synergy with our partners to ensure that Carrier Operations will be available and properly integrated with the F-14’s various systems.

Liveries

The F-14 will come stocked with over 20 different liveries, including a wide variety of squadrons and eras. While we’re aiming for a mid 80’s and mid 90’s airframe for the A and B respectively; we will not be limiting the liveries included to this era. A paint-kit will (unlike the MiG-21) be available at launch.

Training & Missions

The F-14 will be released with a full suite of training, instant-action, and singleplayer missions. The interactive training missions will guide you through many of the F-14’s systems and capabilities, quickly getting you up to speed with some of the basic and advanced concepts of flying the aircraft. You will be able to put these skills to the test in the instant action or singleplayer missions, before moving on to the full Campaign.

sections_jester
The Jester AI system is a proprietary, brand new RIO/WSO AI designed to be integrated with our multi-seat aircraft for DCS World. The importance of implementing such a system quickly became apparent as we realized the workload put on both RIO and Pilot in the F-14 Tomcat. The system will be fully voiced and feature an easy-to-use GUI to allow you to quickly send commands to your RIO.

If you prefer to handle many of the RIOs duties and tasks yourself, a simple Pilot AI can take over while you jump into the rear seat. This part of the AI will be quite simple and limited due to the complex nature of aerial meanouvering.

JESTER AI will be built under the guidance of real RIO’s and Pilots who have spent countless hours in Tomcats. Thus, we hope to attain the most accurate RIO representation available in a flight simulation to date.

Flight Model

The F-14 will built upon our proprietary component based flight modeling system. The aircraft will be split into hundreds of individual components, each with their own aerodynamic properties. This will allow us to simulate the forces acting upon the aircraft at any given flight regime or aircraft configuration. The pure dynamic nature of the flight modeling simulation means that we can easily introduce advanced features such as variable geometry wings or glove vanes and have them yield realistic results.

Theatre & Campaign

The F-14 will ship with a completely new DCS Theatre, perfectly suited for the F-14 and Naval Operations of the era. This new theatre will be available seperately as well, and will be a great addition to the current fleet of available DCS Modules. A full, 20+ mission campaign will ship with the aircraft, allowing the player to undertake a vast array of missions and tasks.

Variants

Both -A and -B model Tomcats will be included in the DCS: F-14. We are aiming for a mid 80’s model -A Tomcat, and mid-90s’ -B. This, for example, means that the Glove Vanes will be disabled on both models, while other improvements (Engine, Control Systems & More) will differ.

Ground Attack

Ground Attack capability will be included in the -B Tomcat, however the exact sensor package and ordinance available is yet to be decided. It is possible that we will expand the available ordinance or equipment after release to encompass more of the F-14’s later capability.

The DCS: F-14 will feature the vast majority of the Tomcat’s 200+ various systems and subsystems. This includes complex interconnected systems such as the AICS, Engines and Hydraulics and associated microprocessors. All of the Tomcat’s navigation, communication and datalink possibilities will be recreated, including those associated with carrier operations.

With the F-14; we hope to further enhance both the macro and micro-detail of systems fidelity in our product line. We’ve learned from our past products as well as mistakes, and hope to put that knowledge to good use.

All system components will be closely integrated with the AFM driving the underlying simulation of the aircraft.

Pricing

Pricing for DCS: F-14 is yet to be determined.

Multiplayer

Multiplayer Multicrew is considered a personal dream of many of our staff; and flying together in a single F-14 is an exciting prospect. We are working in synergy with our partners at Eagle Dynamics to ensure that we are in tune with ongoing development progress in this area.

JESTER AI

The Jester AI system is a proprietary, brand new RIO/WSO AI designed to be integrated with our multi-seat aircraft for DCS World.  The system will be fully voiced and feature an easy-to-use GUI to allow you to quickly send commands to your RIO. A rudimentary Pilot AI will also be made available, for when you switch to the RIO seat to manually operate the back-seat controls and systems.

Dev Schedule

We are working hard on developing the F-14 project and we currently expect to reach an initial internal BETA stage during the first half of 2016. The complexity of the project at hand cannot be understated, however. Both the F-14 itself and all auxiliary components (Theatre, JESTER AI) are incredibly complex tasks, thus we must approach any estimates with great caution. Expect this estimate to change drastically, as we keep you better informed towards the tail-end of 2015.

The History of Leatherneck Simulations begins with the dissolution of the former Studio Beczl team, a group that came together in matter of circumstances and revolved around the creation of our maiden project, the DCS: MiG-21bis. With four core members, Leatherneck Simulations was born and we dedicated ourselves to achieving the first of many releases.

Every single member of Team Leatherneck is wholly dedicated to his craft, and our skills are built on a foundation of passion and excitement over creating the next big thing.

In early 2015 we were joined by Christoffer Wärnbring, Anders Karlsson, Andreas Sandin and Teodor Frost, expanding the core team to 8. Viking invasions such as these don’t generally go well; but for team Leatherneck, this expansion has been nothing but positive. We are now able to both more comfortably expand further and broaden our own horizons, while maintaining adequate manpower to achieve our deadlines.

We expect the team to grow even further during the course of 2015 and into 2016. We’re excited to continue to grow our team and to deliver more great content.

In addition to our core Team; we at Leatherneck Simulations maintain a stable and suitable partnership with several outside freelancers and licensing partners. This allows us to produce content faster under the careful guidance of core Leatherneck members.

We can’t thank you all enough for your support and your trust in recreating one of the most iconic jet aircraft ever built. The entire team is hard at work to reward your trust with results that surpass your wildest imaginations of what to expect.
